7 Tips To Prevent Diabetic Health Problems

The 7 tips

We all know someone who has diabetes, and we recognize it as a growing health menace in the United States and internationally. There are a few steps you can take to prevent the devastating impact diabetes has on your health. This article will provide (7) tips to help you avoid the serious complications of chronic heart, kidneys, eyes, liver, and nerve problems associated with diabetes.

You can reduce your risk of developing diabetes-related health issues.

  1. You should control your diet if you have diabetes. Get a good understanding of the basics of your diet. Be aware of the foods you should avoid, such as fatty snacks and sugary beverages. Learn carbohydrates from beginning to end. Experiment with healthy foods and enjoy them.
  2. Exercise regularly. Several articles have been written about exercise and diabetes by me. You can choose the gym, swimming or walking. Your health team may suggest walking because it is easy to do and doesn’t cost anything. Walking helps strengthen your heart, it uses glucose in your blood stream and decreases your blood sugar levels. It helps you lose weight and keep it off. Plan to walk. My doctor recommends I walk 30 minutes a day.
  3. Take medication as prescribed. Taking a new medication is troublesome. I had to really wrap my mind around taking a drug every day to regain my health. Don’t overthink the process or the medication. Be grateful there is a product available to solve your problem. Taking this medicine may only last for a short time if you follow a healthy routine. Be aware of the side effects.
  4. Monitor and manage your blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Take your blood sugar twice a day or more if needed. To know if you are eating properly. Good daily blood sugar levels lead to good A1C levels. Monitoring your blood pressure and cholesterol is one of the best ways to prevent heart disease. Keep an eye on your diet, exercise and maintaining a good weight. Can you see the loop here? Diet, exercise, weight, diet, exercise and weight.
  5. Get regular check-ups and be open to ideas from your healthcare team. If your A1C is under control at 7.0 or below, your healthcare team may want you to visit every (6) months. If you are on insulin or have an out-of-control A1C, you may visit your doctor every (3) months. At this visit, you may have new symptoms to discuss and get blood drawn to check your glucose and cholesterol levels. Be open to any new suggestions your doctor offers for improving your health. This could be managing your medication, and finding a treatment plan that is right for you.
  6. Reach and maintain a healthy weight. Take small steps toward healthy habits. If you must, begin by walking 10 minutes a day and increase as you get stronger.
  7. Take care of your emotional and mental health. Without emotional health and mental health, nothing else matters. We all face challenging times in our lives. Pray, meditate, read and begin or continue personal growth. Get profession support if needed. Don’t go it alone. It is very unwise.

Diabetes is a serious health problem, but with the right knowledge and support, you can take steps to prevent diabetes-related health problems. Taking medications as prescribed, monitoring your blood sugar, getting regular check-ups, and keeping your weight in check are some ways you can fight back against diabetes-related health issues.
